Kamloops, BC — Stínesten Gallery, an Indigenous-owned and operated art space dedicated to supporting underrepresented Indigenous artists, is proud to announce its official opening on October 24th, 2025 at 140 Laburnum Street on the Kamloops’ North Shore.

The gallery’s inaugural exhibition, Returning to the Land, will run from October 24th to December 19th. Returning to the Land features works of local Sayisi Dene photographer and filmmaker Gina Bussidor.

“Our inaugural exhibition is tone-setting for the Stínesten Gallery, emphasising our continued support for Indigenous artists of all backgrounds and practices.” says Shay Paul, Project Director of the Indigenous Resurgence Project and current Gallery Curator. “[Stínesten] is meant to be a welcoming space for everyone, and a way to allow our local artists the freedom to explore their creative styles.”

Returning to the Land explores the healing power of reconnecting with the natural world. It considers this relationship as a path to both cultural and personal restoration. Using photographic storytelling and short film, featured artist Gina Bussidor reflects on the intersections of memory, identity, and environment. Rooted in the Bussidor’s experience as an Indigenous person, the work also extends an invitation to all people to rediscover their relationship with the land as a source of resilience, reflection, and renewal.

"This work is really quite a personal and a meaningful journey for me,” says Bussidor. “I am really excited to share these pieces and to see how others connect with them."

The grand opening and artist reception will take place on Friday, October 24th from 5PM to 7PM at 140 Laburnum Street. Space in the gallery is limited, and to accommodate public interest, open-house style timeslots will be scheduled for Saturday, October 25th from 3PM to 5PM and Saturday, November 1st from 1PM to 3PM.
