Changing the narrative of Indigenous art
The Indigenous Resurgence project works with artists of any medium and practice, putting emphasis on the diversity of each craft. Being an Indigenous artist isn’t about adhering to a certain style or form - it's about reclaiming our voice through creativity and storytelling and about sharing our perspective. We need to redefine what Indigenous art means, and our perception of it. This exhibition is one small piece in that process
What's the exhibition about?
Each year, we bring together a diverse group of Indigenous artists working across a wide range of styles, mediums, and experiences. Some follow traditional practices, others explore new forms, and many blend the two. The exhibition features artists at every stage of their path—whether they’re just starting out or have been creating for years. What connects them all is the importance of voice, identity, and community in their work.
This exhibition is about the process, the personal stories, and the act of creating. It’s a way to celebrate each artist’s growth, encourage new connections, and show the wide range of Indigenous expression in our region.
Through this exhibition, we aim to support artists at all levels, offer a welcoming space to share their work, and build a stronger, more connected arts community. It’s one part of a larger movement to uplift Indigenous voices and create more opportunities for artists to thrive—on their own terms.
